Treat Safety #1.

  • Help ensure the health and safety of all players at all times.
  • Wear proper court shoes and clothing, stay hydrated, stretch and warm up prior to play and consider protective eye wear.
  • Do not back up on the court.  Instead, turn and move sideways and forward.
  • Do not chase your ball through other active courts.  Call “BALL” so other players are aware a ball maybe be underfoot and wait for it to be returned.
  • Stop play and call “BALL” when a loose ball enters your court or behind it.  Once the ball has been cleared, replay your rally.

Treat all players with courtesy and respect.

  • When entering the playing area, avoid disrupting games in progress while you wait your turn to play.
  • Be inclusive with all players of all skill levels.
  • Before serving, ensure all players are ready to play.  Call out the score clearly before serving.
  • Call the fault yourself if you or your partner are in the ‘kitchen’ on a volley.  Be cautious about calling kitchen or foot faults on your opponents.  Let them call their own faults.

Treat all rental facilities and equipment and club equipment with respect. This includes observing and complying with designated court times and rules of use.

Indoor Play @ St. Clair College – Chatham Campus HealthPlex:

  • All CK Pickleball club members and drop-in participants must sign-in at the Front Desk before play (please print your name so it is clear enough to read).
  • CK Pickleball club members who are also HealthPlex members will need to scan their membership cards to use other facilities and/or the courts outside of our CK Pickleball club rental times.
  • HealthPlex will take care of court set up and equipment provided:  nets, balls.  Members are responsible for proper attire and a pickleball paddle.
  • All players must observe and adhere to the designated time periods for all drop-in, league and other event time periods allotted for play.
  • If you arrive earlier than designated court time, while you wait outside the court area you can:  change into court shoes, do a pre-pickleball play stretch and equipment ready, hydrate, etc.
  • Wear clean, non-marking court shoes.
  •  Observe and comply with the rules of the building and/or court areas and help keep the courts clean.
  •  Treat the balls, nets and paddles carefully, they are all susceptible to damage.

Outdoor Play @ CK Doug Allin Tennis Courts (McGregor High School):

  • There is a locked storage box just outside the South gate entrance to the courts where nets and equipment are stored.  We ask that you ensure this box is kept organized and treat nets and other equipment carefully, they are all susceptible to damage.
  • No storing chairs or personal items in the storage box
  • We ask that you please help set up the nets at the beginning of our drop-in sessions and help take them down and pack them away at the end of the session.
  • Players must have their own equipment for outdoor play.

Know and follow the rules of the game.

  • Players are expected to make all of the line calls on their side of the court.
  • If a team cannot decide on a line call then the benefit always goes to the opponent and the ball shall be declared “in”.
  • An opponent’s opinion can be requested, and if the opponent says the ball was “in” or the opponent could not see it, the ball must be declared “in”.
  • Spectators should not be consulted on any line calls.

Play fairly and encourage others to do so.

  • Competition is one of the joys of sport but should never be an obstacle to having fun.
  • Rotate on and off the court in such a manner that everyone has equal playing time.
  • Announce the score loudly and clearly before serving so that it is known to everyone.
  • While it is part of the game, players should not intentionally hit their opponent with the ball.
  • Do not take advantage of an opposing team whose skill level may be lower by running the score up. One-sided games can be used to practice different shots.
  • Do not celebrate points excessively or belittle the opposition when they miss a shot.
